Alpine Low Note slab formed in terrain pocket
Treeline Good
Below Treeline Good Note rising temperatures and solar radiation during the day
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
As with the previous day, the weather is perfect for a long tour that includes alpine areas. Bring plenty of water and sun protection. Be careful of slips and falls on the ridge tops and other wind-beaten areas as hard snow surfaces are exposed. This is a low avalanche danger day, but use safe terrain and continue to practice smart group management. Lower elevation areas are exposed to different hazards than in the normal season, such as snow bridge breaking in gully. Also, remember that on very steep slopes that receive a lot of sunshine, the possibility of wet snow avalanches can emerge in the afternoon. Have a good day.
Note slabs formed in extreme and isolated terrain pockets
Be aware of rising temperatures during the day and the effects of solar radiation
Yesterday (29th), a size 1 slab avalanche was reported at higher elevations.
No major problems have been discovered with the snowpack on the mountain at this time, and the previous stormy snow has largely subsided. Strong winds following the stormy weather have caused strong scouring of the ridges, exposing hard slopes in some areas. Melt-Freeze crusts have formed at lower elevations than the treeline due to solar radiation, making skiing difficult. Upper level winds have been continuously weak for the past 24 hours, and the potential for new wind slabs to form is low.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting a southerly wind, clear, occasionally cloudy skies, and a daytime high of 9 °C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -8 °C (as of 4:45 a.m.), with no new snowfall in the past 12 hours.
