Travel and Terrain Advice

At very high elevations, watch out for wind slabs forming in isolated areas of extreme terrain. At higher elevations, southwest winds have been increasing since early today. Meanwhile, at lower elevations, watch out for wet loose snow avalanches as temperatures are forecast to rise above yesterday's levels. Whether you are a climber or a skier, be on the lookout for start zones above you. Remember that lower elevation areas are exposed to different hazards than in the normal season, such as snow bridge breaking in gully. The weather is slowly descending. Have a good day.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (30th), several size 1 loose snow avalanches due to wet snow were observed on steep, south-facing slopes at lower elevations.

Snowpack

Previous stormy snow has stabilized. In addition, crusts have formed extensively at lower elevations, due in part to the favorable weather of the past few days. The northern slopes are still dry.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting a southerly, late westerly wind, sunny, occasionally cloudy, with a daytime high of 11 °C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture.
