Travel and Terrain Advice

As with the previous day, this is a safe day for dry snow if you look for simple terrain with little wind influence. Watch out for unstable slabs on extremely shaped terrain. Also be on the lookout for "terrain traps" below them. Snowpack remains low at lower elevations. Pay attention to hazardous elements other than avalanches (e.g., holes in stream bottoms). Although this is a low avalanche danger day, please continue to take safety actions such as stopping in safe areas and spacing yourself appropriately. Good behavioral habits will reduce damage in the event of an emergency.

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanche observations were reported yesterday (3rd).

Snowpack

Due to the cold weather, very weak snowfall has been occurring for several days. This weakly coherent snow, 10-30 cm at the treeline, constitutes a soft slab. Winds have also continued to be light, and no obvious wind slabs have formed.

Weather

Today, the area is expected to be affected by a low pressure system and cold air moving eastward to the south of Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting southerly and later northwesterly winds, cloudy, with a daytime high of 5 °C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -7 °C (as of 4:45 a.m.), with no new snowfall in the past 12 hours.
