Beware of wind slabs that exist on extremely steep slopes just below the ridge and branch ridges. Be careful at higher elevations where bonding is difficult to progress. Poorly bonded layers have been observed at the boundaries of past storm snowfall. Be aware of induced storm slabs on extremely steep slopes. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Be careful of falling into gully. Please act with caution and pay attention to the weather changes caused by the south coast low pressure system.
Beware of extremely steep slopes just below the ridge and branch ridges.
Note induction from shallow snow cover on extremely steep slopes
No reports of new avalanches observed yesterday (4th), but limited observations due to poor visibility
Due to past west to northwest winds, wind slabs have formed on extreme steep slopes just below the ridge and branch ridges, and crusts have been blown away and exposed in wind-swept areas. In the higher elevations, there is a localized layer of low density and poor bonding at the boundary with the old snow locally, which should be noted, but it is expected to gradually settle and gain strength. No vulnerabilities within the old snow have been reported.
As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -0.6°C. No new snowfall in the past 24 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies with snow or rain from early afternoon as a low pressure system develops and moves east-northeast over the southern coast of Honshu.
