Beware of the triggering of loose snow avalanches on steep slopes by low density snowfall that is not affected by wind. Be even more careful on large steep slopes that tend to be larger in size because they involve the surrounding snow. Pay attention to group management to ensure that other skiers are not above or below you. Even if the size of the avalanche is small, "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber are exposed that can increase the damage. Care should also be taken to avoid falling into gully.
Beware of triggering on large steep slopes.
No reports of new avalanches observed yesterday (5th), but limited observations due to poor visibility at higher elevations.
About 20-40 cm of new snowfall with low density and weak bonding is expected to be on top of the well-settled snowpack. There are crusts in the middle layer and its lower part is becoming faceting, so future bonding should be carefully monitored. No weakness in the lower layer within the old snow has been reported.
As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara was -1.8°C. There has been 31 cm of snowfall in the past 24 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies with occasional snow or rain until early afternoon as the low pressure system moves east of Japan but is affected by a pressure trough and moist air.
