Beware of induced storm slabs present on steep slopes. Be careful in areas where there are sudden changes in slope level and in open areas with few trees. Pay attention to group management to ensure that other skiers are not on the slope above or below you. Even if the size of the avalanche is small, "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber are exposed that can increase the damage. Care should also be taken to avoid falling into gully.
Beware of sudden changes in slope and open steep slopes with few trees.
A number of human-triggered loose snow avalanches (size 1) were reported observed on steep slopes yesterday (6th). Observations were limited due to poor visibility at higher elevations.
The 20-30 cm of snowfall from yesterday's stormy weather is gradually settling on top of the well-settled snowpack, but there is a low-density layer on the boundary surface that requires attention for bonding. There are crusts in the middle layer, and the lower part of the crust is faceting in the higher elevations, so further bonding needs to be carefully monitored. No fragility in the lower part of the old snow interior has been reported.
As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -7.2°C. No new snowfall in the past 12 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting a moderate high pressure system, but due to the influence of a pressure trough and moist air, it will be cloudy and sometimes sunny in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture, with snow showers in some areas from midday.
