Wind slabs are expected to form due to snow movement caused by last night's winds. Be careful of triggering on steep slopes just below the ridge and branch ridges. Avalanches due to storm slabs on extremely steep slopes have also been reported. Be careful of triggering avalanches in areas with sudden changes in slope level or in open areas with few trees. Be aware of group management to ensure that other skiers are not on the slope above or below you. Even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small, "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase the damage are exposed. Care should also be taken to avoid falling into gully.
Be careful of steep slopes on the downwind ridge and just below the branch ridge.
Beware of extremely steep slopes
Yesterday (7th), there were reports of multiple human-triggered slab avalanche size 1-1.5 and shooting cracks observed on extreme steep slopes from the southeast to the south.
There are reports of human-triggered slab avalanches from a low-density layer at the boundary of the well-settled snowpack, which is gradually settling. In addition, strong westerly winds have been moving the snow since midnight, and new wind slabs are expected to form on the leeward side. There are crusts in the middle part of the snowpack, and the lower part of these crusts is becoming faceting in the higher elevation zones, so future bonding should be noted. No fragility in the lower part of the old snow interior has been reported.
As of 5:00, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is -1.7°C. There had been 3 cm of snowfall in the past 12 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and occasionally cloudy skies in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to a high-pressure system, but subject to the effects of a pressure trough and moist air.
