Be aware of induced wind slabs on extreme steep slopes just below higher elevation ridges and branch ridges. Also, be aware of induced storm slabs that remain localized on extreme steep slopes. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Be careful about falling into gully. Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are in the forecast. Be aware of the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large, steep south-facing slopes.
Beware of new wind slabs forming on the steep slopes just below the ridge and the branch ridges.
Beware of instability remaining on extremely steep slopes.
No reports of new avalanches observed yesterday (9th).
Yesterday, the surface melted and crusts formed on the southerly slopes. Wind slabs may have formed late at night due to strong winds from the west. The snowfall is settling and increasing bonding, but there is a low-density layer at the boundary, and human-triggered avalanches occurred from this layer on the 8th, so caution should be exercised at higher elevations where bonding is less likely to progress. There are crusts in the middle part of the snowpack, and bonding is expected to be rising, although the surrounding area was faceting in the higher elevation zones. Vulnerability in the lower part of the snowpack has not been reported.
As of 4:00, the temperature at Ameda Fujiwara is -5.5°C. No snowfall in the past 24 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and cloudy skies with some snow showers at night due to cold air in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture, as the area is covered with high pressure but subject to the effects of a pressure trough and moist air.
