Now is a great time to venture into the backcountry, we have seen little sign of instability across the region and any concerns are isolated to the most recent new snow. Although we have a low danger rating safe travel techniques are still required. Be mindful of terrain traps below you and take the time to asses slope before exposing your group to avalanche terrain.
Storm slabs exist in protected terrain features. Look for cracking when traveling in deep snow. Avoid slopes above terrain traps.
No recent activity has been reported across the region.
The north of the region has received upwards of 35cm of new snow over the last 48 hours. Northerly slopes provide the cold snow whilst we expect crust to be found on southerly aspects.
A westerly flow over the coming days will bring low to moderate winds and snow flurries. We are expecting the freezing level to rise to above 1000m early next week.
