Avoid all travel below cornices as the warming event will cause them to weaken and become unstable. The warm temps may also cause glide cracks and glide avalanches to occur. These typically form on steep slopes and behind convex rolls particularly on solar aspects however with the high freezing levels, they may also form on polar aspects.
Loose wet avalanches can be expected on steep slopes particularly those exposed to solar input.
Glide slabs are stubborn and difficult to predict but more likely to occur during warm events.
Large cornice fall observed on South aspect of Yotei with debris running the length of the track
Solar input yesterday has created a melt freeze crust particularly on South and West aspects up to treeline and possibly above. Polar slopes have 10cms of settled storm snow over a well settled base. Stubborn windslab can be found on East and NE aspects at treeline and above.
A strong SW flow takes hold today bringing a rapid rise in temperates with the freezing level rising to 1500m tonight (Tuesday). Temps will remain warm until Thursday. Today will bring a mix of sun and cloud clearing in the afternoon. Similar weather is expected tomorrow with a mix of sun and cloud before temps drop back down Wednesday night.
