At lower elevations, the effects of the recent rainfall and elevated temperatures remain, so be aware of the possibility of glide avalanches from open cracks and steep, cliff-like slopes. We recommend that you stay clear of the lower part of such areas and the gully bottom, or pass through them quickly. Be careful of falling into gully as well. At higher elevations, localized wind slabs are expected to form on the steep slopes of the stream bottom just below the ridge and branch ridges. Keep an eye out for bonding. Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are forecast. Avalanche danger levels will vary from "Low Low" to "High High" depending on daytime temperatures and solar radiation. We recommend taking action before the crust loosens up due to the effects of solar radiation and rising temperatures.
Beware of open cracks and steep cliff-like slopes.
Extremely steep slopes noted
No reports of new avalanches observed yesterday (16th), but limited observation due to low number of climbers
Rainfall on the 15th affected at least 1500m. The snow surface melted-Freeze. On top of this, snowfall on the 16th, which was influenced by strong northerly winds, has accumulated thinly on the bottom of the gully. The windy areas have been blown away, exposing crusts. No vulnerability was reported in the middle to lower layers of the snowpack.
As of 4:00, the temperature at Ameda Fujiwara is -2.6°C. No snowfall in the past 12 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting generally clear skies due to continued high pressure.
