Travel and Terrain Advice

Be aware of the potential for glide avalanches from open cracks and cliff-like steep slopes at lower elevations. Also be aware of the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large, steep southerly slopes. We recommend that you do not enter or quickly pass through the lower part of such areas or the gully bottom. Be careful not to fall into gully. Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are in the forecast. The avalanche danger level will change from "Low Low" to "High High" depending on daytime temperatures and solar radiation. It is recommended that you finish your activities before the crust melts and the snowpack loses strength due to the effects of solar radiation and rising temperatures.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (18th), there were reports of observing loose snow avalanche size 1 and glide avalanche size 1.5 on extremely steep southerly slopes

Snowpack

The crusts were formed by the rainfall on the 15th, and the snowfall on the 16th, which was influenced by strong northerly winds, was on top of the crusts, but bonding is good. The crusts have been blown away in windy areas, exposing the crusts. No vulnerability in the middle to lower layers of the snowpack has been reported. At lower elevations, the lower part of the snowpack is wet and losing strength due to the cold nighttime temperatures.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at Ameda Fujiwara is 0.4°C. No snowfall in the past 24 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies and generally rain in the evening due to moist air and a frontal influence.
