On large open slopes that already have glide cracks (e.g., the south face of Toomi One and Happo One), there is a high probability that a large scale glide avalanche will occur. Slush may also occur, depending on the amount of future rainfall. Slush is an avalanche in which the snow is saturated with water, so it can occur even if the slope is loose and can flow farther down. It is such a dangerous day in gully and other areas. Think carefully about the terrain you are in and the characteristics of the slope above you. Remember, too, that even if the rain stops after this, the danger will continue for some time.
Stay away from slopes with glide cracks. Even if the rainfall stops, the danger will continue for some time.
Be alert to the intensity and amount of rainfall. Avalanches can occur even in the forest if the slope is steep enough, as sufficiently wet snow has weak bonding forces.
Yesterday (19th) there was a size 1 loose snow avalanche of wet snow surface avalanche. Reports are limited due to low numbers of people entering the mountain.
Due to the high daily temperatures, the snow surface layer at lower elevations is well wet. Currently, the wind direction is shifting from southwest to west as the front approaches, but warm air is entering the area, and positive temperatures have continued since last night even on the main ridge. There is a possibility of temporarily intensified precipitation, further increasing the risk of glide avalanche.
Today, the area is expected to be affected by a front and moist air moving through eastern Japan. The JMA is forecasting northerly winds, cloudy skies, rain or snow at night, and daytime highs of 11 °C for northern Nagano Prefecture. At Amedas Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is 3.8 °C (as of 5:00 pm), with positive temperatures last night and this morning, and 11 mm of precipitation.
