Choose terrain wisely and conservatively as the change in weather brings snow and wind. There will still be an icy surface for some time and slip and slide hazards will be a concern especially on steeper terrain. Variable snow conditions from alpine to below treeline will create challenging riding conditions that will be icy in places and deep with new snow in places.
New windslab will form on an icy snow snow surface.
New snow in sheltered terrain will fall on top of an icy snow surface.
No recent avalanches reported. The potential for windslab development will be the main concern with the forecasted snow and winds that will fall on the current icy snow surface.
The lower snow pack is well settled, however the upper snow pack has gone through much change recently. The warm weather caused for a wet upper snowpack that will now freeze and create a hard icy surface and will need time to assess how and if the new snow bonds to the icy surface beneath.
The recent warm weather is finally giving way to a colder northwest flow that is forecasted to bring moderate to strong northwest winds. Light to moderate precipitation in the form of snow. Temperatures to remain below freezing in the valley bottoms.
