As the cold nighttime temperatures at lower elevations and rainfall conditions continue to be weak, be aware of the potential for glide avalanches from open cracks and cliff-like steep slopes. Also be aware of the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large southerly steep slopes. We recommend that you do not enter or quickly pass through the lower part of such areas or the gully bottom. As of 5:00 am, rain is falling at the foot of the mountain, but snow is expected at higher elevations. Please be aware of new snowfall and bonding of old snow.
Beware of open cracks and extremely steep slopes.
No information available as there were not many people entering the mountain yesterday (20th).
The snow surface is wet from yesterday's rainfall and is expected to be frozen at elevation 1600m and above, with a thin layer of new snowfall on top of it. There are no reports of vulnerability in the middle to lower layers of the snowpack. At lower elevations, the lower part of the snowpack is wet and losing strength due to four days of cold nighttime conditions.
As of 5:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is 2.7°C. There has been 1mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours and is still raining weakly. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting rain and occasionally cloudy skies, with some snow in the mountainous areas of northern Gunma Prefecture, due to the influence of a frontal system and moist air.
