The cold temperatures of the past few days have resulted in freezing at lower elevations, but there may still be residual effects from rainfall below the snowpack. Be aware of the possibility of glide avalanches from open cracks and steep, cliff-like slopes. We recommend that you stay clear of the lower part of such areas and the gully bottom, or pass through them quickly. Be careful not to fall into gully. Clear skies are forecast during the day. Please be aware of the possibility of a loose snow avalanche from a large south-facing steep slope.
Watch out for open glide cracks and steep cliff-like slopes.
No reports of new avalanches observed yesterday (23rd)
The crusts in the upper layers of the snowpack formed by the recent rainfall are gradually strengthening, and bonding is good with about 5-10 cm of new snowfall on top of the crusts. No significant weakness in the middle to lower layers of the snowpack has been reported. Even at lower elevations, crusts are forming on the surface, but the lower part of the snowpack is expected to be wet and weak.
As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -1.5°C. No new snowfall in the past 12 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and cloudy mornings and evenings due to a high-pressure system, but subject to the influence of a trough and moist air.
