With settled weather in the coming days and the possibility of periods of sunshine the desire to push further and higher into the backcountry will grow. Variable conditions exist across the region with the reported crust in the upper snowpack still being felt in steep terrain. Ski and ride in control and be mindful of buried hazards near the snow surface such as vegetation at lower elevations that may cause injury if caught. Glide cracks as ever remain a concern.
Northerly winds have produced isolated pockets of wind slab at higher elevations on lees slopes. Theses slabs can be found at ridgelines and around specific terrain features. Look for an sighs of fresh wind load in the alpine on easterly aspects.
No new activiity has been reported recently.
Overall the snowpack appears well-bonded the previously reported crust remains in the upper back and is now buried 40 to 60cm down. A trace amount of new snow has fallen over night which will have little effect to conditions.
A low-pressure system sits of the east coast and will push north in the coming day this will be followed up by a high bringing periods of broken sunshine, snow flurries and light northerly winds.
