Beware of bonding wind slabs on steep slopes just below ridgelines and branch ridges. Also, watch out for induced storm slabs where the slope changes abruptly or on open, extremely steep slopes with few trees. Please be mindful of group management, such as making sure that other skiers are not above or below you. The low snowpack exposes "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Care should also be taken to avoid falling into gully.
Be careful of steep slopes on the ridge and just below the branch ridge.
Beware of extremely steep slopes
No reports of new avalanche bulletins observed yesterday (4th), but information is limited due to the low number of observations.
Wind slabs are expected to form on the downwind side of the ridge and directly below the ridge due to snow movement caused by strong winds from the west last night. The 30-50 cm of snow that fell due to stormy weather until February 2 is gradually settling and bonding, but low-density snow is being observed on the crust on the boundary surface, and a human-triggered avalanche was reported from there recently, so care should be taken in bonding. In the higher elevations, facet and crusts were buried on February 22, and we need to keep in mind that the bonding may decrease in the future.
As of 6:00 am, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -2.8°C. Snowfall over the past 24 hours has been 8 cm with gradual settling. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies and snow or rain in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture in the evening as the low pressure system develops and moves south of Shikoku in the evening.
