Beware of loose snow avalanches caused by new snowfall that has not progressed through bonding. Although the expected avalanche size is small, "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage are exposed. Be careful about falling into gully. Also, be mindful of group management, for example, to ensure that other skiers are not above or below you. Be careful of triggering storm slabs at higher elevations where the slope changes abruptly or on open, extremely steep slopes with few trees.
Increase the size of avalanches that occur, watch out for large steep slopes.
Beware of extremely steep slopes
No reports of new avalanches observed yesterday (5th).
About 10-20 cm of snowfall since last evening with little wind effect is on the old snow. At higher elevations, the temperatures are cooler and bonding is less likely to progress, so caution should be exercised. Snowfall from past stormy days has been settling and bonding. Low-density snow accumulation is observed around the boundary crust, but the vulnerability has been eliminated at lower elevations. In the higher elevations, some crusts were buried on February 22 and facets were observed on the upper part of the crusts, so further bonding should be kept in mind.
As of 4:00 pm, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara was -0.4°C. Snowfall in the past 24 hours was 12 cm. The JMA is forecasting snow or rain in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture and cloudy skies in the evening as a low pressure system moves from the southern coast of eastern Japan to the east of the country.
