Solar aspects developed a thin melt freeze crust yesterday. Polar slopes continue to hold good snow with 20-60cms of settled storm snow overlying the Feb. 20th rain crust. In general the storm snow is settling and stabilizing however there are still notable layers within the storm snow and the Feb. 20th rain crust remains present across the region.
A ridge of high pressure is moving towards Hokkaido bringing light NW winds today (thursday) and mostly calm conditions tomorrow (Friday). Temperatures will rise to just below freezing in the valley today and slightly above tomorrow. Skies are expected to be mostly overcast with a chance of the occasional sunny break both days. Scattered flurries with minimal accumulations of snow are possible in some parts of the region during this time.
