A period of calmer conditions brings increasing stability to most of the region however avalanche problems persist. Be cautious of rising temps and unexpected sunny periods which may cause the avalanche problems to wake up and become reactive. Cornice failures and glide avalanches continue to be an ongoing concern at this time of year. Avoid travel on steep South and East facing slopes prone to glide avalanches and below cornices. The next report will be issued Tuesday morning at 7am.
Shifiting winds over the coming days will move the windslab problem from South aspects to East.
The storm slab problem exists in the Northern part of the region that has continued to receive snow in recent days and may become reactive with solar input and rising temps. It will be more problematic on solar aspects which have more layers and will receive additional solar input in the coming days.
Sunny skies and clear temps will activate the Loose wet problem on Monday
No new avalanches have been reported.
The northern part of the region (Kiroro / Kokusai) has continued to receive steady snowfall most days this week while the rest of the zone has received minimal precip in recent days. 20-60cms of storm snow overlies the Feb. 20th melt freeze crust. Solar lenses can also be found within the snowpack in some parts of the zone that have received sun in recent days.
A light Northerly flow is expected today, shifting to light NW Sunday then westerly on Monday. Light flurries along with a mix of sun and cloud are expected on Saturday and Sunday. Monday is expected to be mostly sunny with temperatures rising to 6 degrees in the valley.
