Beware of induced storm slabs on steep slopes. Be especially careful at higher elevations where snow bonding is less likely to proceed. Be aware of the presence of large start zones overhead even if you yourself are on a low slope. Even if the avalanche is small in size, there are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase the damage. Be careful about falling into gully. Also, please be mindful of group management, such as making sure other skiers are not above or below you. The forecast is for clear skies. Please be aware of the possibility of wet snow point loose snow avalanches from large, steep southerly slopes that are susceptible to daytime solar radiation.
Beware of triggering on steep slopes with abrupt changes in slope
Numerous human-triggered slab avalanches (size 1-1.5) were observed yesterday (10th) on extremely steep slopes.
The top of the snowpack, which has been settling and tightening, and the top of the crust on the more southerly slopes, have 40-60 cm of snowfall from the stormy weather since the 8th, and 100 cm in areas with heavy snowfall. Bonding is poor due to the low density of snow on the boundary surfaces. In addition, a layer of poor bonding exists in the interior of this stormy snowpack, which responds to human stimulation. The middle part of the snow cover is bonding and strengthening.
As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -6.8°C. No new snowfall in the past 12 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and cloudy skies from mid-afternoon due to a high-pressure trough.
