Note the bonding of storm slabs on extreme steep slopes on southerly orientations. Be careful in the Tanigawa-dake area where there are many extreme steep slopes. Even if the avalanche size is small, there are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage. Care should also be taken to avoid falling into gully. Warmer daytime temperatures and sunshine are in the forecast. Be aware of the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large southerly steep slopes. In lower elevations, watch for glide avalanches from glide cracks and cliff-like slopes. Do not enter the lower part of such areas or pass through them quickly.
Beware of extremely steep slopes
Beware of large steep slopes due to the increased size of avalanches that occur.
Watch out for open cracks and steep, cliff-like slopes.
Yesterday (24th), multiple surface and loose snow avalanches of size 1-1.5 were observed on southerly slopes; on the 23rd, several naturally occurring slab avalanches of size 3-3.5 were observed on southeasterly slopes near 1600m in the Tanigawa-dake area within the past two days, and on the 22nd On the 22nd, multiple human-triggered slab avalanche size 2.5 were reported on a steep east-southeast facing slope near 1300m.
About 40-80 cm of snowfall from past stormy weather is on top of the settled old snow, and settling is progressing. Crusts were observed at the boundary of this snowfall, and the upper part of the crusts were faceting and bonding was weak, but it is expected that bonding is gradually progressing. In the Tanigawa-dake area, a large avalanche had occurred, so bonding should be kept in mind. There are no reports of significant vulnerability observed in the middle to lower part of the snowpack.
As of 4:00 pm, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is 0.7°C. Cooler temperatures during the night are weak. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy and sometimes sunny skies in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture, with some rain showers during the night, due to a high-pressure system but affected by a frontal system and moist air.
