The large, steep slopes that open to the south in conditions that could result in destructive wet snow avalanches. Avoid entering slopes in that direction and at the same time consider whether there are any such slopes above you. In addition, increased glide crack movement has been reported as of yesterday. Be on the lookout for glide avalanches. Even if the rain stops in the coming days, the danger of glide avalanches will not diminish immediately. Great caution should be exercised throughout the day. Inexperienced groups are advised to stay within the ski area. Rain-washed ski courses are more runnable and enjoyable.
Use extreme caution in open glide cracks.
On steep slopes receiving solar radiation, the crust was buried in the upper part of snowpacks. The crust is the stopping point of the current rainfall, conditions that could cause a highly destructive wet slab avalanche.
Even in the forest, loose snow avalanches can occur. Also, watch out for large slopes.
Strong southerly winds are blowing on the main ridge and the temperature is barely negative.
Yesterday (28th), size 1 wet loose snow avalanches and glide avalanches were observed at lower elevations. Also, the expansion of glide cracks was reported.
Since yesterday until this morning, temperatures have been above 4°C at the foot of the mountain and rainfall has continued. There has been a very strong southerly wind on the main ridge since yesterday afternoon. And today, higher temperatures than yesterday are forecast. The overall snow cover at lower elevations and the strength of the snow cover surface layer at slightly higher elevations are greatly reduced.
Today, the area will be affected by a frontal system and moist air, but high pressure is expected to gradually build in the afternoon. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting southerly winds, a little strong at first, rain, and clear skies from midday, with a daytime high of 20 °C (68 °F) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At 703 m elevation (Hakuba), the temperature is 4.6 °C (as of 5:00 a.m.), and 13 mm of rain has fallen in the past 12 hours. The Nagano District Meteorological Observatory forecast 40 mm of rainfall for northern Nagano Prefecture at 4:40 a.m. on March 29, 24 hours to 6:00 a.m. on March 30.
