High temperatures continue. Be on the lookout for glide avalanches. As you move down the valley route at the end of the tour, keep an eye out for steep terrains on either side. Pass quickly under slopes with glide cracks and do not stay there. Also, as the snow is melting, please consider the possibility that routes that were usable during the usual season may not be available. High temperatures are forecast for today as well as yesterday. Be careful of avalanches caused by wet snow. This type of avalanche is very heavy and even small ones can easily scoop you off your feet. Be sure to keep your attention above yourself. This will be a day of strong sunshine. Don't forget sunscreen and plenty of water. Have a good day.
Yesterday's rainfall and continuing high temperatures have resulted in snowmelt. Please stay away from slopes with glide cracks.
On very steep and large slopes, snow may collect and increase in size.
Temperatures are slightly negative on the main ridge. Also, violent winds (westerly winds) are currently averaging over 20 m/s. Be aware of unstable slabs remaining in terrain pockets.
Yesterday (29th), a size 2.5 wet slab avalanche was observed at around 2,000 m elevation. This avalanche occurred when crusts buried in the upper layers of the snowpack became a stopover for rainwater that penetrated into the snowpack. Several glide avalanches were also observed at lower elevations.
The heavy rainfall (25 mm on the night of the 28th to the morning of the 29th) and high temperatures have contributed to the melting of the snow. In particular, temperatures have remained above 10°C until this morning after reaching 18°C at the foot of the mountain (at 14:00 on the 28th).
Today, a moderate high-pressure system will be in place, but yellow dust may be observed. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, clear skies, cloudy nights, rain in places late at night, and daytime highs of 19 °C for northern Nagano Prefecture. At 703 m elevation in Hakuba, Japan, the temperature is 13.1 °C (as of 5:00 a.m.), with no rainfall in the past 12 hours.
