Early season hazards remain the biggest concern with lower elevations requiring further snowfall to bury exposed trees and rocks. Careful route finding is required to avoid obvious hazards and be wary of any river crossings.
Isolated pockets of wind slab may exist at higher elevations on lee slopes and protected areas. Look for sighs of fresh pressed snow around ridgeline. Limited observations have been made in the alpine recently.
Loose dry activity may be triggered in steep terrain at higher elevations.
No new activity has been reported.
Up to have 5cm of new snowfall has been recorded across the region over night. This latest new snow overlies a well consolidated mid snow pack which is gaining strength. Early season crusts recoded lower in the pack have begun the break down.
Periods of sunshine are expected today with light north-westerly winds and precipitation before a southerly change late in the evening brings warmer temperatures and increased snowfall totals.
