Alpine Low
Treeline Fair
Below Treeline Fair
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
Pay close attention to the intensity of snowfall during the day. New snow increases the risk of avalanches. Pay attention to wind direction and take lines to avoid steep, unsupported slopes on the downwind side where windslab formation is predicted. Also, watch out for new wind slab formation as the wind direction is expected to change during the day. Gullys are becoming less visible, but there are still some holes, so be careful, especially when visibility is poor. May the coming year be a good one for all of you.
Watch out for changes in wind direction.
Watch for rainfall and elevated temperatures. Stay away from slopes with glide cracks.
Yesterday (30th), glide avalanches up to size 2 were reported below treeline. Several brand new windslab avalanches of size 1-2 were reported in the forest zone and below treeline. In the alpine area, several size 2.5-3 slab avalanches were observed, probably during stormy weather.
The series of snowfalls that lasted from the 26th through the 29th have been rapidly settling in the lower treeline and slowly settling above the treeline. Due to radiative cooling last night, the snow surface was very low in density and actively redistributed by the wind. Above the treeline, northwest to west winds have been strengthening again since dawn, and new wind slabs are expected to form. Crusts were formed on the sunlit steep slopes in the lower elevations due to yesterday's sunshine. On top of this, the snowfall that began at dawn will be deposited.
Today, the pressure is expected to gradually shift from high in the west to low in the east, although it will be affected by a frontal system. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies with widespread snow or rain and thunderstorms from late afternoon to early evening with a daytime high of 8 ºC in northern Nagano Prefecture. At 703 m elevation in Hakuba, the temperature is -2.8 °C (as of 5:00 pm).
