Travel and Terrain Advice

Be aware of wind slab triggering and snowpack collapses on steep slopes just below ridgelines and branch ridges at higher elevations where bonding is difficult to proceed. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Be careful of falling into gully holes. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting a gradually wintry pattern. Please be aware of the changing effects of the wind.

概要

Avalanche

No reports of new avalanches observed yesterday (30th).

Snowpack

The snowfall from the stormy weather since the evening of the 26th has been settling, although in many places there was more than 150 cm of snow on the slopes, and because of strong winds from the north to the west until the morning of the 29th, wind slabs have formed on the downwind slopes, and bonding is not expected to progress at higher elevations.

Weather

As of 6:00 am, there has been no new snowfall in the area around AMeDAS Fujiwara, with 16 cm settling in the past 24 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies and snow in the evening in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to the influence of a frontal system, which will gradually shift to a high in the west and low in the east.
