Travel and Terrain Advice

At higher elevations, where snow bonding is less likely to progress, be aware of wind slabs on extreme steep slopes just below the ridge and branch ridges. Be aware of glide cracks on steep slopes, which are thinly concealed in some places, and watch for falls. At lower elevations, also watch for falls into gully holes.

概要

Avalanche

No reports of new avalanches observed.

Snowpack

There is a low density snow cover of about 10-15 cm on the surface. On the southerly slopes, thin crusts are formed on the boundary. The middle to lower snowpack are well settled and well bonded. Due to the strong westerly winds last night, wind slabs are expected to form on the downwind side of the ridge and just below the ridge.

Weather

As of 4:00 pm, about 1-2 cm of snow had fallen around the Fujiwara area of the AMeDAS. The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts that the winter pressure pattern will gradually loosen, but due to the influence of a pressure trough and cold air, it will be sunny and sometimes cloudy at the foot of the mountains in northern Gunma Prefecture, with snowfall in some areas until the evening.
