Travel and Terrain Advice

At higher elevations, where snow bonding is less likely to progress, be aware of wind slabs that remain locally on extreme steep slopes just below the ridgeline and branch ridges. Be aware of glide cracks on steep slopes, which are thinly concealed in some places, and beware of falls. At lower elevations, watch for falls into gully holes. Sunny skies are forecast during the day. Please be aware of the possibility of wet snow point loose snow avalanches from large southerly steep slopes that are susceptible to solar radiation.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (4th), there were reports of numerous spontaneous and human-triggered loose snow avalanches, size 1, observed on extremely steep slopes.

Snowpack

Low-density snow is 10-15 cm on the surface of the snowpack, and it is gradually settling. On the southerly slopes, thin crusts have formed on the boundary surfaces, so bonding should be noted. The middle to lower layers of snow cover are settling well and bonding is good. Due to the past westerly winds, wind slabs may have formed on the downwind side of the ridge and just below the ridge.

Weather

As of 4:00 pm, there has been no snowfall in the past 12 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and occasional cloudiness from midday onward due to high pressure, but subject to the effects of a pressure trough and moist air.
