At higher elevations, where the wind is more susceptible, watch out for bonding wind slabs on the steep slopes just below the ridge and the branch ridges. Be careful of glide cracks on the steep slopes, which are thinly concealed in some places, and beware of falls. Temperatures were warmer yesterday and there was some overnight rainfall in the lower elevations. The potential for glide avalanches is rising. Do not enter or quickly pass through areas where glide cracks are open or at the bottom of cliff-like slopes. The weather service is forecasting snowfall in the coming days. Please be aware of changes in snow conditions due to snowfall amounts and winds.
Beware of steep slopes on the ridge and just below the branch ridge.
Beware of open glide cracks, cliff-like slopes, and extremely steep slopes with thin snow cover.
Unknown due to lack of information from climbers who entered the mountain yesterday (6th); there was a report of an avalanche bulletin observed on the 5th.
Past stormy snowfall is expected to have settled due to yesterday's warmer temperatures. New snowfall is expected to be thinly spread on top of it. The middle to lower layers of the snowpack are settling well and bonding is good. Although the amount of new snowfall is expected to be small, the westerly winds that have strengthened since last night have shifted the snow, and wind slabs are expected to form locally on the downwind side of the ridge and just below the ridge.
As of 6:00 am, 5.5 mm of rain had fallen in the past 12 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting cloudy and sometimes sunny skies in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture, with some snow showers in the evening, due to a winter pressure pattern, a pressure trough, and cold air.
