Travel and Terrain Advice

At higher elevations where bonding is difficult to progress, watch out for induced storm slabs on steep slopes. Be careful in areas where there are few trees to support the snowpack and where the slope changes abruptly. We recommend that you stay in areas with slopes that are less steep below treeline. Even if you are in an area with a loose slope yourself, be aware of avalanches from large avalanche start zones overhead.

概要

Avalanche

Several skier-triggered slab avalanches of size 1-2.5 were observed yesterday (11th) on steep slopes in the Tanigawadake area.

Snowpack

Due to snowfall since the 10th, about 100 cm of new snowfall is on the mountain areas. Around 1200 m elevation, crusts are buried in all directions due to the recent rainfall and elevated temperatures, and the boundary bonding is poor. In the Tanigawa-dake area, some people reported that they responded to human stimulation and observed whumpfing sounds in the vicinity.

Weather

As of 4:00 pm, there has been no snowfall at AMeDAS Fujiwara in the past 12 hours, and settling is in progress. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies with occasional clearing until late afternoon, as a low pressure system is expected to move east-northeast over the southern sea of Honshu and pass near the Izu Islands in the evening, although high pressure will be moderately covering the area at first.
