Alpine Fair Limited Alpine observations reduce our confidence in the hazard rating
Treeline Good Hazard rating is for the Northern part of the region, where there is more recent storm snow.
Below Treeline Good Normal caution advised
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
Assess the bond of the Windslab to the old snow before entering wind loaded terrain features. Use caution around newly formed Cornices as they will be weak, and likely to fail. There is a thin, breakable crust on steep South and West aspects that makes for challenging skiing / riding. If you are riding in the Northern part of the region, watch out for changes in the snow condition on sunny slopes today as the recent storm snow may change into a reactive Stormslab.
The Windslab is becoming less reactive, but should still be assessed before entering wind loaded terrain.
May become an issue in the Northern part of the region today on solar aspects
Specific to the Northern part of the region, where there is up to 60cm of unconsolidated snow. Use caution on steep slopes above terrain traps, gully walls, etc.
No new avalanches were reported in the region yesterday.
Higher elevations have been heavily wind affected this week. Exposed ridges have been stripped down to hard, old snow surfaces, and leeward aspects contain Windslab. Steep South and West aspects have a thin, breakable crust on the surface. In the Southern part of the region North and East aspects have ~20cm of soft snow on the surface in sheltered areas, and Windslab in exposed areas. In the Northern part of the region up to 60cm soft snow can be found on sheltered North aspects.
Sunny skies forecast for this morning, changing to a mix of sun and cloud this afternoon. Winds are expected to be light from the South in the Alpine. A high temperature of -1C is forecast in the valley bottom today.
