Travel and Terrain Advice

At higher elevations where bonding is less likely to progress, watch out for induced storm slabs on steep slopes. Be careful on extreme steep slopes with few trees to support the snowpack and rapid changes in slope. strong westerly winds are being observed as of 7:00 am. Please be careful on steep slopes on ridgelines and just below the ridges where wind slabs are likely to form. The forecast is calling for a winter pressure pattern. Please be aware of the amount of snowfall and changes in wind conditions.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (12th), there was a report of a glide avalanche observed on a southerly slope; on the 11th, several human-triggered slab avalanches of size 1-2.5 were observed on steep slopes in the Tanigawadake area.

Snowpack

The snowfall from the recent stormy weather is gradually settling. The bonding in the upper part of the crust observed around 1200 m elevation has been rising, and strong westerly winds have been observed around 1450 m since early morning, which is expected to move the snowpack and form wind slabs on the steep downwind slopes.

Weather

As of 7:00 am, there has been no snowfall at AMeDAS Fujiwara in the past 12 hours, and settling is in progress. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy and sometimes sunny skies in northern Gunma Prefecture with some snow showers from morning to early afternoon as the pressure system gradually moves west to high and east to low.
