Alpine Fair Wind slab development is expected today on lee and cross loaded features
Treeline Fair If the winds are strong enough and you see blowing snow, wind slabs may become a problem later in the day on lee and cross loaded features. This may raise the rating to Moderate
Below Treeline Fair Loose new snow avalanches on frozen surfaces are possible today and can sweep you into trees, gullies or a creek.

As the new snow falls on various old snow surfaces, monitor the bonding of the new snow to the old. Before entering avalanche terrain, check for cracks in the new snow and if it will slide downhill. Crusty and fast snow conditions may exist where the surface snow has melted and is now refrozen. Old frozen tracks under the snow can catch your edges and cause a fall. A fall on steeper melt-freeze slopes could hurt and be hard to stop sliding downhill. Use good judgment. Refrozen chunks have fallen from the trees and are now hard and frozen. Soon they will be hiding just under the new snow. If you hit one they will feel like you hit a rock. Winter is back !!
If snow does fall this afternoon, expect ridge top winds to load lee terrain possibly forming small thin wind slabs In the alpine and tree line.
If cold new snow falls on the melt freeze surfaces dry loose avalanches are possible on steep 38 degree plus slopes.
No new avalanche activity has been reported
The old snow has had conditions to settle and gain strength. The old surface however is highly variable. On sheltered shaded slopes the surface has become weak and faceted. Surface hoar has been reported yesterday and most likely formed overnight again. if not destroyed and this gets buried by new snow it could become the weak layer of the next avalanche. On solar effected slopes smooth melt freeze crusts and near crust facets may also become a weak problem layer once buried in under todays new snow.
Winter returns this afternoon after many days of fair weather. Freezing levels have dropped to the surface and will fall further tonight and tomorrow. Clear skies early then cloudy skies are expected today with light to moderate snow, and increasing light W winds with moderate ridge top gusts.
