Dangerous avalanche conditions. Beware of bonding storm slabs on steep slopes. We recommend that you stay below treeline on slopes with moderate slopes. Even if you are on a loose slope, watch for large avalanche slopes overhead. Watch for "terrain traps" such as gullies, cliffs, standing trees, or other groups below you that could cause more damage in the event of an avalanche.
Beware of triggering on steep slopes.
Yesterday (16th), a human-triggered storm slab (size 1) occurred in the Kagura area, a number of human-triggered storm slabs (scythe 1-1.5) occurred in the Tanigawadake area, and there was an accident related to an avalanche in the Tanigawadake area, which was reportedly carried out by helicopter, but details are unknown.
The snowfall that intensified yesterday with strong westerly winds was over 50 cm at 1400 meters. In addition, more than 10-15 cm of new snowfall is on top of that, and snowfall is still continuing. There is a low-density snow cover on the boundary surface with the old snow, and the bonding is weak and responsive to human stimulation. The crust that formed on the southern slope at the lower elevation and was buried on the 15th has a weakly bonding snowpack on the boundary surface and requires attention. The middle part of the snowpack is settling and bonding.
As of 4:00 pm, 10 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara, and snow continues to fall in the surrounding areas. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting that a low pressure system will pass over northern Japan, creating a winter pressure pattern, and that the area will gradually be covered by high pressure in the afternoon, resulting in cloudy skies in northern Gunma Prefecture, with occasional sunshine from late afternoon and snow showers until morning.
