Travel and Terrain Advice

Watch for bonding of wind slabs on extremely steep slopes just below the ridge and branch ridges at higher elevations where bonding is difficult to proceed, and for collapsing cornice. Temperatures are expected to rise during the day. At lower elevations, watch for glide crack movement leading to glide avalanches and possible wet snow point avalanches from large steep slopes. When regrouping after skiing, be sure to remove yourself from avalanche terrain and regroup in the safest possible location, such as on top of a ridge.

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanches were reported yesterday (19th), but there were reports of collapsed snow shelters.

Snowpack

Strong westerly winds during the day on the 19th have caused wind slabs to form on the extremely steep downwind side. Glide crack movement is observed below 1500m.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -1.5℃. There is no new snowfall and settling is progressing. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting generally cloudy skies and daytime temperatures rising to 9°C in Minakami due to the influence of a low pressure system and a pressure trough.
