This is an extremely high avalanche danger day. Even if you are in the forest, you need to be aware of the terrain and conservative with respect to the start zones and tracks within it. Even if you are at the base of the mountain, a large avalanche can occur from a large start zone at the top. Today is a great day to enjoy fresh snow within the ski resort. If you do, stay within the open runs. Previous avalanche fatalities in the ski area have occurred in closed areas. Protecting the areas that are open to skiing is important not only for your safety, but also for the safety of other guests.
Conditions are such that large slab avalanches can occur due to different bed surfaces at different elevations and aspects.
Yesterday (29th), size 1 Storm Slab avalanches caused by ski cuts and shooting cracks were observed at the treeline and below treeline. There was also an avalanche incident with a size 2 Storm Slab. An overview is as follows. 2 people in a group of 4 involved (1 partially buried, 1 fully buried) at 1,300 m elevation, on the north slope. Both were uninjured and had avalanche equipment. The other two members of the group were below and were not involved in the rescue. Message to those involved in the accident (a few points I would like to confirm, please send mail to info@nadare.jp. Your personal information will be protected)
Yesterday (29th), snowfall began in the morning and intensified around noon, with an intensity exceeding 5 cm hourly snow depth. Bonding with Melt-Freeze crusts forming below treeline was poor, and shooting cracks were observed in areas with dense slabs. We also observed instability of the surface slab at the vulnerability within the new snow, which is often observed during strong snowfalls in a short period of time. Due to the low temperatures, it is necessary to assume that this situation continues today.
