Travel and Terrain Advice

Note the presence of unbonded storm slabs. Be careful about triggering on steep slopes or where the slope changes abruptly. It is recommended that you stay below treeline where the slope is slower or on the ridge. Be aware of the presence of large avalanche start zones overhead, even if you yourself are on a loose slope. When regrouping after skiing, try to leave the avalanche terrain and regroup in the safest place possible, such as on the ridge top. Be aware of other groups above and below you.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (30th), a naturally occurring storm slab (size 1.5) on an extremely steep slope in the Kagura area, which appeared to be during stormy weather. There was a report of observing numerous human-triggered loose snow avalanches(size 1) on steep slopes in the Tanigawadake area.

Snowpack

Low density snow cover was observed on the surface of the snowpack yesterday, and then buried more than 50 cm below the surface due to enhanced snowfall with strong northwesterly winds in the evening, so caution should be exercised in bonding the boundary surface. There is no report of observed vulnerability from the middle to the lower part of the snow cover.

Weather

As of 6:00 am, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is -3.5°C. There has been snowfall of 30 cm in the past 12 hours, and more than 50 cm near 1400 m elevation. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting that the winter pressure pattern will gradually loosen and high pressure will cover the area, but the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture are expected to be affected by cold and moist air, so the forecast is cloudy and snowy in some areas.
