Travel and Terrain Advice

Be aware of induced storm slabs that form on steep slopes. When regrouping after skiing, be sure to leave the avalanche terrain and regroup in the safest place possible, such as on a ridge top. Be aware of other groups above and below you. Snowfall is forecast to continue. Please be aware of increasing snowfall and wind effects.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (3rd), there was a report of a naturally occurring loose snow avalanche (size 1) and a wind slab avalanche (size 1.5) observed on an extremely steep southerly slope.

Snowpack

Snowfall with low density and large grain size has been observed on the snow cover surface, and attention should be paid to bonding with the snowfall of this stormy weather. Yesterday's sunny slopes are expected to melt the snow surface and form crusts on the southerly slopes.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -1.8°C. Around the area, about 2 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours, and light snow is still falling. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy and sometimes snowy conditions in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to a strong winter pressure pattern and the influence of a pressure trough and cold air.
