Massive snowfall makes action difficult. Be careful of induced storm slabs on steep slopes. We recommend that you stay on slopes and ridges in forested areas or in areas with little snowfall. Be aware of the presence of large avalanche start zones overhead, even if you are on a loose slope yourself. When regrouping after skiing, try to leave the avalanche terrain and regroup in the safest place possible, such as on a ridge top. Be aware of other groups above and below you. Snowfall is forecast to continue. Please be aware of increasing snowfall and wind effects.
Be aware of avalanches from steep slopes overhead even if you are on a low slope
Yesterday (5th), multiple human-triggered storm slab avalanches (size 1-2) and numerous loose snow avalanches (size 1-1.5) of point-generated dry snow avalanches were observed in the tree line.
Snowfall during this stormy weather was more than 150 cm in many places. Snowfall with low density and large granularity has been buried by this snowfall and bonding should be noted. The upper portions within this snowfall are also responding to human stimulation because bonding has not yet progressed. On the southerly slopes, the snow surface has melted and crusts are buried.
As of 6:00, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is -5.7°C. 23 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours. At AMeDAS Yuzawa, 30 cm of snow has fallen in the past 6 hours, and snowfall is still continuing. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting snow and cloudy skies from early afternoon in northern Gunma Prefecture due to a winter pressure pattern and cold air.
