Travel and Terrain Advice

Note the presence of storm slabs on steep slopes. Be careful of triggering in open areas with few trees or where the slope changes abruptly. We recommend that you stay in areas with moderate slopes and on ridges. Be aware of the presence of large avalanche start zones overhead, even if you are on a loose slope yourself. When regrouping after skiing, try to leave the avalanche terrain and regroup in the safest place possible, such as on the ridge top. Be aware of other groups above and below you. Snowfall is forecast to continue. Please be aware of increasing snowfall and wind effects.

概要

Avalanche

Multiple storm-slab avalanches (size 1-2), both human-triggered and naturally occurring, were observed on steep slopes in the tree line two days ago and yesterday (6th).

Snowpack

Snowfall during this stormy weather was more than 150 cm in many places. The snowpack is gradually settling, but the low-density, large-particle snowfall has been buried by this snowfall and requires attention to bonding. The upper part within this snowfall is also reacting to human stimulation because bonding has not progressed. On the southerly slopes, the snow surface has melted and crusts are buried.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -5.6℃. There has been 2 cm of snowfall in the surrounding area in the past 12 hours, and light snow is still falling from time to time. Around 1300 m elevation, about 5 cm of snow has fallen. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies and snow late at night in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to a strong winter pressure pattern and the influence of cold air and a pressure trough.
