Be aware of the presence of storm slabs on steep slopes. Be careful of triggering in open areas with few trees or where the slope changes abruptly. We recommend that you stay on the ridge or in areas with slopes of slopes that are less steep. Be aware of the presence of large avalanche start zones overhead, even if you are on a loose slope yourself. When regrouping after skiing, try to avoid avalanche terrain and stay as close to the ridge top or other safe areas as possible. Be aware of other groups above and below you. Snowfall is forecast to continue. Please be aware of increasing snowfall and wind effects.
Beware of steep slopes
Yesterday (7th), there was a report of a human-triggered avalanche that swept away a person on a steep slope in a forested area in the Tanigawadake area, but details are not available. There was also a report of a glide avalanche on the southeast slope.
Snowfall during this stormy weather was more than 180 cm in many places. The snowpack is gradually settling, but the low-density, large-particle snowfall has been buried by this snowfall and requires attention to bonding. The upper part within this snowfall is also reacting to human stimulation because bonding has not progressed. On the southerly slopes, the snow surface has melted and crusts are buried.
As of 4:00 pm, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is -6.8°C. 13 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours, and strong snowfall is continuing. Around 1,300 m elevation, about 20 cm of snow has fallen. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting a strong winter pressure pattern and cold air influence, resulting in cloudy and sometimes snowy conditions in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture, with thunderstorms in some areas before noon.
