Travel and Terrain Advice

Dangerous avalanche conditions continue. Even though the snowfall has weakened, wind slabs are still forming due to strong winds. Wind slabs that have just formed are easy to break and dangerous. In addition, wind slabs on top of fresh snow that has not yet gained full strength can destabilize the snowpack. This is a day that requires careful observation of the terrain, route setting with a large safety margin, and conservative decision making. Inexperienced groups are advised to enjoy the day in the ski resort.

概要

Avalanche

Due to stormy weather yesterday (7th), no observation information was received in the mountains.

Snowpack

The storm snow that began on February 4 is about 150-180 cm. In the below treeline, it has been observed that the lower layer of storm snow is sintering and slowly gaining strength. Snowfall is weakening, but extremely strong westerly winds are blowing overhead. Caution should be exercised in the formation of wind slabs due to this.
