Travel and Terrain Advice

Note the presence of storm slabs on steep slopes. Be careful of triggering in open areas with few trees or where the slope changes abruptly. We recommend that you stay on the ridge or in areas with slopes that are slower. Even if you are on a loose slope yourself, watch for avalanches from large avalanche start zones overhead. When regrouping after skiing, try to do so off avalanche terrain and in the safest place possible, such as on a ridge top. When skiing on the ski resort's non-pressured trails, please be careful not to get buried in deep snow. Snowfall is forecast to continue. Please be aware of the effects of increased snowfall and wind.

Avalanche Problem

Beware of steep slopes. At higher elevations with more snowfall, the avalanche size that can occur is also larger.

概要

Avalanche

A number of human-triggered slab avalanches (size 1-2) and naturally occurring loose snow avalanches of point source dry avalanches were reported yesterday (8th) on steep slopes in the tree line.

Snowpack

Snowfall during this stormy weather was more than 180 cm in many places. Snowfall with low density and large granularity has been buried by this snowfall and bonding should be noted. The upper portion within this snowfall is also reacting to human stimulation because bonding has not yet progressed.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -4.1℃. There has been 34 cm of snowfall in the past 24 hours, with about 50 cm of snowfall near 1300 m elevation, and strong snowfall is still continuing. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy and sometimes snowy conditions in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture with thunderstorms until dawn due to the continued strong winter pressure pattern and the influence of cold air.
