Watch for induced storm slabs on steep slopes. A number of them occurred yesterday on steep slopes. Be careful of triggering in open areas with few trees or where the slope changes abruptly. We recommend that you stay in areas with gentle slopes or on ridges. Even if you are on a loose slope yourself, watch out for avalanches from large avalanche start zones overhead. When regrouping after skiing, be sure to remove yourself from the avalanche terrain and try to do so in the safest place possible, such as on a ridge top.
Beware of triggering on steep slopes.
A number of spontaneous and human-triggered slab avalanches (size 1-1.5) were reported yesterday (9th) on steep slopes in the tree line.
Snowfall during this stormy weather was more than 180 cm in many places. Snowfall with low density and large granularity has been buried by this snowfall and bonding should be noted. The upper portion within this snowfall is also reacting to human stimulation because bonding has not yet progressed.
As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -4.7℃. 4 cm of snow has fallen in the past 6 hours, and around 40 cm of snow has fallen in the past 24 hours at an elevation of 1300 m, and snowfall is still continuing. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting a gradual easing of the winter pressure pattern, but cloudy and snowy conditions are possible in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to the effects of a pressure trough and cold air.
