Be alert for wind slabs formed by very strong westerly winds. The wind can turn around along terrain and create slabs in many different places. In addition to simple slabs on the downwind side of a ridge, slabs formed by cross loading on the side slopes of a branch ridge can also be dangerous. If the slope is terrain with convex or unsupported features, the slab may be sensitive. While using safe terrain, act accordingly and look for simple terrain that is not affected by wind.
Strong westerly winds have been blowing continuously since yesterday, forming slabs.
Not much snow has fallen in the past two days, but still, not stable enough. Be careful on very steep slopes and convex terrain.
Yesterday (13th), a size 1 loose snow avalanche due to wet snow was observed at a very low elevation location. No information has been received at higher elevations due to stormy weather.
During the night of February 12, light rain to snow fell at lower elevations (generally below 1,600 m) and snow continued at higher elevations until yesterday evening. This new snowfall was 20-30 cm below treeline and was influenced by extremely strong westerly winds. Bonding at the interface between new and old snow at higher elevations is uncertain due to a lack of information.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting a westerly wind, slightly strong and cloudy, with occasional snow or rain until midday, then clearing, with a daytime high of 8 °C (13 m above sea level).
