At higher elevations, watch for induced wind slab and snow avalanches that form locally on extreme steep slopes just below the ridge. At lower elevations, due to warmer temperatures, watch for glide avalanches from extreme steep slopes with thin snow cover or glide cracks, and loose snow avalanches from large steep slopes. Do not enter or pass quickly through the lower part of such slopes. When regrouping after skiing, try to do so off avalanche terrain and in the safest place possible, such as on top of a ridge.
Beware of extremely steep slopes just below the ridge.
Avalanche size increases due to more snow entrainment, beware of steep slopes with large slope size.
Watch out for open cracks and cliff-like slopes.
Yesterday (15th), a report of a loose snow avalanche (many size 1, few size 2) observed on a steep southerly slope.
Due to past snowfall accompanied by strong westerly winds, wind slabs have formed just below the ridge, but bonding is progressing. The middle part of the snowpack is gradually settling and bonding. Yesterday, crusts were formed on the steep southerly slopes.
As of 4:00, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is -0.3°C. No new snowfall in the past 24 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies with clearing before noon as a low pressure system with a frontal system moves east-northeast over the southern sea of Honshu.
