信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
The instability of previous stormy weather has dissipated, so be on the lookout for unstable slabs remaining in certain terrain pockets. Also, depending on the extent of morning rainfall and rising daytime temperatures, be on the lookout for wet snow. Stay away from slopes that already have glide cracks in them. Tomorrow will be another full-blown stormy weather cycle. Have a good weekend.
Beware of unstable slabs formed in terrain pockets.
Depends on morning rainfall
Depends on daytime temperature and intensity of solar radiation
Yesterday (15th), a size 1.5 wind slab avalanche was observed in the treeline. Several size 1 wet loose snow avalanches and size 2 glide avalanches were also reported below treeline due to high temperatures and solar radiation.
High temperatures and solar radiation have promoted settling and sintering of the storm snow. At very low elevations, the snow has become wet, regardless of slope orientation, creating snowballs, loose snow avalanches, or glide avalanches. With higher temperatures than yesterday also forecast for today, we should expect the same trend. On the other hand, at higher elevations, the snow is staying dry on shaded slopes and there is good powder in areas where the wind is less of an influence.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, then from the west, cloudy, sunny from midday to midafternoon, and in places, rain until midafternoon, with a daytime high of 12 ºC (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -2 °C (as of 5:45 a.m.), with no new snowfall in the past 12 hours.
