Travel and Terrain Advice

Be careful of bonding wind slabs on extreme steep slopes just below the ridge at higher elevations. Solar radiation is in the forecast. Also watch for the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large steep slopes with a southerly orientation. When regrouping after skiing, try to do so off avalanche terrain and in the safest possible location, such as on a ridge top. At lower elevations, be aware of open glide cracks and the possibility of glide avalanches from cliff-like slopes with thin snowpack. Do not enter or quickly pass over the bottom of such slopes.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (27th), there were reports of several human-triggered wind slab avalanches (size 1) on extremely steep slopes just below the ridge.

Snowpack

At higher elevations, where snowpack is less likely to bond, wind slabs are forming just below the downwind ridge; stormy snowfall through the 25th is settling and the middle to lower layers of the snowpack are settling and bonding. Crusts are expected to form in all directions below about 1000m.

Weather

As of 4:00 pm, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is -5.8°C with no new snowfall. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a forecast of clear skies and occasional cloudiness due to the influence of an overhead pressure trough and moist air, although high pressure will continue to prevail.
